Frequently asked questions

A standard Polaroid print (i-Type, 600 or SX-70 film) is 88.47 x 107.52 mm, or 3.483 x 4.233 inches, with a 76.80 x 78.94 mm picture. An Instax Mini print is 54 x 86 mm (2.13 x 3.39 inches), Instax Square is 72 x 86 mm and Instax Wide is 108 x 86 mm. None of them is 4x6. The table below lists every current format with its picture size, pack size and cost per shot, and the drawing under it shows them all at the same scale.

Instant film sizes at a glance

Print size is the whole sheet. Picture size is the image inside the white border. Sizes are width x height as the print is normally held, with the wide border at the bottom, except Instax Wide, which is held sideways.

The costs per shot for i-Type, 600, SX-70, Go and the three Instax films use the regular prices in our product records at the October 2026 check: i-Type $18.99 for 8, 600 $20.99 for 8, SX-70 $21.99 for 8, Go $21.79 for 16, Instax Mini $18.17 for a 20-shot twin pack, Square $31.40 for a twin pack and Wide $139.95 for 100. Round Frame ($22.99 for 8) and 8x10 ($199.99 for 10) are polaroid.com prices from the same day. ONE INSTANT is €60 for three Choco shots and €77 for three black and white shots on the Supersense store, also October 15, 2026.

Polaroid inch figures are Polaroid’s own. Instax inches are converted from Fujifilm’s millimetres.

Every current Polaroid and Instax print drawn at the same scale, with a 4x6 print and a credit card (dashed) for comparison. The shaded box is the picture; its position inside the border is approximate. Polaroid 8x10 is left out because its 215 x 325 mm sheet is more than twice the height of a 4x6 print.

Polaroid picture size

Polaroid i-Type, 600 and SX-70 films are all the same size. Polaroid’s support article on photo dimensions gives the total area as 4.233 x 3.483 inches and the photo area as 3.108 x 3.024 inches. In millimetres that is an 88.47 x 107.52 mm print with a 76.80 x 78.94 mm picture. Polaroid’s shop pages round the same figures to 107 x 88 mm and 79 x 77 mm.

The picture is not square, though it is close. One side is 3.108 inches and the other 3.024, a ratio of about 1.03 to 1. Polaroid does not say which side is the width. Its own product photos show the picture a little taller than wide, so this page gives it as 76.80 mm wide and 78.94 mm tall, the same way round as our Polaroid frame template.

The three films differ in speed and price, not size. i-Type and 600 are ASA 640 and SX-70 is ASA 160, according to Polaroid’s film pages. Polaroid i-Type vs 600 film covers which camera takes which film.

Round Frame 600 film uses the same sheet with a round picture. Polaroid’s support article gives it the same total area and a photo diameter of 3.024 inches, 76.81 mm. The Round Frame shop page repeats the generic 79 x 77 mm image area, so this page uses the support figure. The coloured and black frame editions and the Reclaimed 600 film are the same size too.

Polaroid says it currently makes five integral film formats: Go, 600, i-Type, SX-70 and 8x10. Peel-apart, Image/Spectra, 500 and iZone films are no longer supported.

Polaroid Go size

A Polaroid Go print is 53.9 x 66.6 mm (2.122 x 2.623 inches) with a 46 x 47 mm picture (1.811 x 1.851 inches). It is about as wide as a credit card and about 19 mm shorter.

Polaroid’s Go film page says the format is four times smaller than i-Type. Polaroid’s own dimensions give a smaller gap: the print has about 2.6 times less area than an i-Type print, and the picture about 2.8 times less. Go film fits only the Polaroid Go camera. Our Polaroid Go vs Polaroid Now comparison covers what the smaller print means in use.

Polaroid 8x10

Polaroid 8x10 is a large-format integral film. The sheet is 215 x 325 mm (8.5 x 12.8 inches) and the picture 190 x 241 mm (7.5 x 9.5 inches). The sheet is much longer than the picture area. A pack holds 10 photos and was $199.99 on polaroid.com, $20.00 a shot. Polaroid’s support pages say you need an 8x10 camera, a Polaroid 8x10 film holder and a Polaroid 8x10 processor to use it.

Instax Mini size

Instax Mini prints are 54 x 86 mm (2.13 x 3.39 inches) with a 46 x 62 mm picture (1.81 x 2.44 inches). Fujifilm describes the print as about the size of a credit card, and the measurements agree: a standard ID-1 card is 53.98 x 85.60 mm, within 0.4 mm of a Mini print.

Fujifilm publishes two figures for the long side. Its instaxus.com film pages and its Mini size FAQ say 86 mm, but its film formats FAQ says 85 mm. This page uses the film pages.

Mini is the cheapest instant film here at about $0.91 a shot, and more cameras take it than any other. Instax Mini vs Square vs Wide covers which Instax format to buy.

Instax Square size

Instax Square prints are 72 x 86 mm (2.83 x 3.39 inches). The picture is 62 x 62 mm (2.44 x 2.44 inches), the only exactly square picture of any film on this page. A twin pack costs about $1.57 a shot, the most of the three Instax films.

Instax Wide size

Instax Wide prints are 108 x 86 mm (4.25 x 3.39 inches) with a 99 x 62 mm picture (3.90 x 2.44 inches). You hold a Wide print sideways, with the 108 mm edge along the bottom.

Turned on its side, a Wide print is close to a Polaroid sheet: 108 x 86 mm against 107.52 x 88.47 mm. All three Instax films share the 86 mm edge, hold 10 shots a pack and develop in about 90 seconds, according to Fujifilm.

Instant film sizes compared with 4x6, wallet and credit card

A 4x6 print is 101.6 x 152.4 mm. Wallet prints vary by lab: Mpix sells 2.5 x 3.5 inch wallets and Walgreens sells 2 x 3 inch ones. A credit card is 85.60 x 53.98 mm under the ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1 standard. We worked out the paper areas below from those figures.

Print Size (in) Size (mm) Area vs a 4x6 print
4x6 lab print 4 x 6 101.6 x 152.4 100%
Polaroid i-Type, 600, SX-70 3.48 x 4.23 88.47 x 107.52 61%
Instax Wide 4.25 x 3.39 108 x 86 60%
ONE INSTANT pack film 3.35 x 4.25 85 x 108 59%
Instax Square 2.83 x 3.39 72 x 86 40%
Wallet print (Mpix) 2.5 x 3.5 63.5 x 88.9 36%
Instax Mini 2.13 x 3.39 54 x 86 30%
Credit card (ID-1) 2.13 x 3.37 53.98 x 85.60 30%
Wallet print (Walgreens) 2 x 3 50.8 x 76.2 25%
Polaroid Go 2.12 x 2.62 53.9 x 66.6 23%
Polaroid 8x10 sheet 8.5 x 12.8 215 x 325 451%

No instant film is 4x6. A Polaroid print covers about 61% of a 4x6 sheet, and its picture about 39%. Instax Square has a little more paper than a 2.5 x 3.5 inch wallet print. Instax Mini is close to a 2 x 3 inch wallet print but not the same size.

To print frames or mock-ups at true size, use our Polaroid frame template. It has downloads for Polaroid, Polaroid Go and all three Instax sizes, set to the same dimensions as this page.

Polaroid vs Instax sizes

Two pairs come close. Instax Wide and a Polaroid print use almost the same paper, within 3%. Their pictures are different shapes, wide against near-square, but differ in area by only about 1%: 6,138 mm² for Wide and 6,063 mm² for Polaroid. Instax Mini and Polaroid Go are both about 54 mm wide, but Mini is 86 mm tall and Go 66.6 mm.

None of the films swap between brands. Instax vs Polaroid covers the choice between the two.

Film that is not Polaroid or Instax

ONE INSTANT is a Type 100 peel-apart pack film, hand-made in Vienna and sold by Supersense. Its print size is 85 x 108 mm, close to a Polaroid sheet. Supersense says it works in all cameras that take Polaroid and Fuji Type 100 peel-apart pack film, and in some 4x5 cameras with a Polaroid 405 or Fuji PA-145 holder. Each pack holds three single-shot cartridges. Supersense does not publish the picture size.

Fujifilm FP-100C, the old Fuji pack film for the same cameras, is discontinued. Supersense lists it as old stock, and every variant was unavailable on October 15, 2026.

Printer and Zink sizes are different

Photo printers that use Zink or dye-sublimation paper are not instant film, and their prints come in their own sizes:

  • Zink 2x3 (Canon Ivy 2, HP Sprocket): 76 x 51 mm
  • HP Sprocket 3x4 Zink: 108 x 89 mm
  • Polaroid Hi-Print 2x3 cartridge: 86 x 54 mm

Instax Link printers are the exception. They print on real Instax film, so their prints match the sizes above. See Instax vs Zink and our best portable photo printer guide.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Polaroid picture in inches?

Polaroid gives its i-Type, 600 and SX-70 print as 3.483 x 4.233 inches, about 3.5 x 4.2, with a picture of 3.024 x 3.108 inches. A Polaroid Go print is 2.122 x 2.623 inches with a 1.811 x 1.851 inch picture.

Is 4x6 a Polaroid size?

No. A Polaroid print is about 3.5 x 4.2 inches, so it covers about 61% of a 4x6 sheet. 4x6 is a standard lab print size. Polaroid does sell a Hi-Print 4x6 printer, but it makes dye-sublimation prints, not instant film.

Are Instax and Polaroid the same size?

No. An Instax Mini print is 54 x 86 mm and a Polaroid i-Type print is 88.47 x 107.52 mm. Instax Wide, at 108 x 86 mm, uses about as much paper as a Polaroid print but is held sideways, and its picture is a wide rectangle where Polaroid's is near-square. The films do not swap between brands.

How big are Instax Mini photos?

54 x 86 mm (2.13 x 3.39 inches), with a 46 x 62 mm picture (1.81 x 2.44 inches). Fujifilm calls it about the size of a credit card.

Is Instax Mini film 2x3?

Close, but no. The print is 2.13 x 3.39 inches and the picture 1.81 x 2.44 inches. A Zink 2x3 print, such as the Canon Ivy 2's, is 76 x 51 mm.

How big is a Polaroid 600 picture?

The same as i-Type and SX-70: an 88.47 x 107.52 mm print with a 76.80 x 78.94 mm picture. Polaroid's shop rounds this to 107 x 88 mm and 79 x 77 mm.

What ratio is a Polaroid picture?

Nearly square. Polaroid gives the picture as 3.108 x 3.024 inches, a ratio of about 1.03 to 1.

What size is Polaroid Go film?

53.9 x 66.6 mm (2.122 x 2.623 inches), with a 46 x 47 mm picture. Go film fits only the Polaroid Go camera.
